Therapeutic Horse Riding in Raanana

Although I know there are several horse riding stables in and around Raanana I want to recommend the one I am familiar with "Chavat HaChaim" of Life Farm. Apart from anything else the owners are extremely warm hearted and welcoming, making everyone feel part of an extended family. The Life Farm gives riding leasons to children with all manner of disabilities and handicaps as well as kids and adults that are interested in standard riding lessons and even in competing. The Life Farm has a group of kids which competes in national competitions as well as having general competitions between the Life Farm riders a few times a year. The Life Farm also holds frequent social get togethers, barbeques, and holiday riding courses.

Whether you are interested in therapeutic riding for your child's autism, ADD/ADHD, physical handicap or simply for sport and recreation the Life Farm gets my vote.

Raanana Gas Mask Distribution 2010

You can get your gas masks in Raanana at the moment at Yad Lebanim. You don't have to pay if you have previously not had a mask or have returned the last one you had. All you need to take is your Taudat Zaut and you can pick up masks for your whole family. You will need their I.D. numbers as well. The whole procedure is very fast so long as there isn't a queue. You don't have to wait until you are notified to come and pick up your gas mask, just arrive.

The Raanana municipal swimming pool in Lev Hapark offers a lot more than just a pool. You could actually use it as a country club with the advantage that you can pay for each facility independently and not necessarily as a package deal. For non-Raanana residents it does not pay as there are other pools in the area which charge a lot less, however if you are from Raanana this is the best value for your money as far as pools go.

Israeli Bagrut Explained

Although this is a more general subject and not specifically about the city of Raanana I know Bagrut confused me when I first arrived in Israel so I researched the subject and put together this article to try and explain it. I wrote this article about Bagrut at the end of 2009 so some of the info may need revising. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has more information on the subject.

As far as "migimot" go I am going to write another post soon about which Raanana schools offer which migimot, at the moment I can tell you that Royee Klien school offers physics, computers and graphic design as well as having a few pupils who are doing robotics. The few pupils studying robotics get bused out to Aviv school where robotics is a migima.

Raanana "Moked" is an information hotline which can be used for a miriad of purposes, you can basically ask them anything to do with anything within Raanana. If you have a complaint to make, you saw someone with a dog not picking up the dog's poop, a sidewalk is dirty, you want to know what time Shabbat starts, where something is, get directions to a Raanana location, be connected to someone in the municipality, find out if there is a strike, what is on at the ampitheatre, what time the shops open and close, get put through to the police... in other word anything.

The municipality has made things even easier by adding an on line report form, unfortunately it is only in Hebrew. Another recent improvement to their service is a recording telling you how long you have to wait for your call to be answered. The Raanana moked is a 24 hour service and is free.

Purim Parade in Raanana

Kids enjoying the 2010 Purim parade - Ad Lo Ya Da -down the main road of Raanana. Every Purim each school creates a parade float or costumes for pupils to wear and then they parade down Ahuza Street. There is no prize for the best float, and the work on the float is mostly done by art teachers and volunteer moms but the kids have great fun being the ones who actually march in the parade. Raanana junior high and high schools make floats and the primary or elementary schools dress up in theme costumes. If you are an arty mom why not get involved, talk to your kid's teacher.
